Picture Book City

Introducing, Picture Book City at Swarthmore Public Library!

The children’s picture book collection has been rearranged in a manner we hope will help children feel more capable and independent when finding books in the Library.

Instead of continuing to file each book solely by the author’s last name, librarians created Picture Book City, which consists of “neighborhoods” of picture books grouped by subject and identified by color. For example, bedtime books are now in the light blue neighborhood, while books about celebrations are marked with pink labels, and the yellow neighborhood houses concepts like ABCs, numbers, and shapes.

Children's non-fiction, cultural myths and biographies remain downstairs, interspersed with adults' books on similar topics.
